EOD Issue 9 Edited by Chris A. Masters Most of 1993 was spent getting the Australian Horror Society started, opening and running a used bookstore, and getting Bloodsongs started. In fact, EOD #8 was almost the last issue. As I had already accepted enough material to fill two more issues, I announced after EOD #8 was published that I was no longer looking for material for EOD. In fact, all EOD submissions received were transferred to the Bloodsongs pile. My original plan was to finish EOD on a high with the last issue being a double, which I planned to have offset printed and perfect bound. Unfortunately, this double issue never came about due to lack of finances. After my plans for the last double issue fell through, I decided to put out two more issues, with EOD #10 being the last. As it turned out EOD #9 was the last issue as I just did not have the money to put out EOD #10 and both #8 and #9 had cost me a lot more money than I recouped from their sales. A lot of the material that I had accepted for EOD #10 ended up in the first issue of Bloodsongs, for which the authors were paid, so I'm sure they didn't mind. As I had all of the equipment at our Commerce House office that we were using for Bloodsongs at my disposal at the time, I was able to put quite a bit of work into EOD #9. All of the typesetting and layout were done on PageMaker 5 and the master copy was printed on a laser printer, so the interior layout and print quality was a huge improvement over previous issues. The cover was again offset printed on card stock by Steve Proposch and the interior was printed on our office photocopier. It would have been nice to have put out a tenth issue, but unfortunately, it just didn't happen. |
