Bloodsongs, Issue 3

The Sex Issue: Published by Bambada Press, December, 1994
Edited by Chris A. Masters & Steve Proposch
Assistant Editor: B.J. Stevens

Gordon & Gotch, whom by this time we had re-christened Gordon and Botch, didn't seem to think that Bloodsongs #2 was worthy of their full attention. With our smaller print-run they considered us as small fry and did a very poor job with getting the second issue out in the newsstands. We heard later that many places never even got the magazine. This, and the poor print quality, led to disappointing sales figures. And to top it all off, Gordon and Botch decided they wanted to part ways with us using the disappointing sales figures for Bloodsongs #2 as their excuse.

Steve and I were extremely pissed off with all this. In fact, I wanted to fold Bloodsongs and just walk away. Luckily Steve wasn't about to give up so easily and convinced me to stick it out. At least now that they had abandoned us Gordon & Botch would at least have to pay up what they owed us immediately.

We began looking for a new distributor as well as a new printer and commenced work on putting Bloodsongs #3 together.

Bryce Stevens, who had moved down to Melbourne from Sydney to help us out, was hired as our assistant editor. Bryce was immediately a great help as we had a huge pile of manuscripts that needed reading. Also, his overall enthusiasm and abilities as a writer and artist made him an invaluable addition to the Bloodsongs team. He also bought a lot of beer that he happily shared.

With the third issue of Bloodsongs we decided to alter the format slightly. We cut down the page number from 88 to 64 and lowered the price from $6.95 to $4.95 in the hope that this would increase sales. Unfortunately it didn't. Again there were delays. We were hoping to have Bloodsongs #3 out by the end of October 1994, but it wasn't ready until late November. By that time we were out of money and starting to get behind on our office bills and rent.
